Streaming data is what your streams send out: the video and sound that goes to YouTube and to every other place you stream to. Each destination gets its own copy, so a stream sent to two places uses twice as much. If your plan includes a monthly amount, you'll see it on your Streams page and in Settings → Billing as Streaming data: 420 of 2,000 GB this month. Plans without an amount have no limit.
How much a 24/7 stream uses
For one stream to one destination, running all day:
- 720p: about 45 GB a day, about 1.3 TB (1,300 GB) a month.
- 1080p at 30 fps: about 65 GB a day, about 2 TB a month.
- 1080p at 60 fps: about 100 GB a day, about 3 TB a month.
Streams that only run for a few hours use a share of that. The count starts over on the 1st of every month (at midnight UTC, which is 5:30 am in India).
What happens when you reach it
We never stop a stream because of streaming data. Instead, step by step:
- At 80% we let you know (in the app, and by email and on your phone if your alerts are on). Nothing changes yet.
- At 100% every stream stays live, but each one keeps only its first destination. Other destinations pause until the 1st. The first one isn't touched, so your viewers there see no break.
- At 110% streams you start or restart before the 1st go out in 720p. Streams that are already live keep their quality, because changing it would interrupt them.
On the 1st, everything goes back to normal by itself: paused destinations come back on and new streams use your usual quality.
Need more?
- Upgrade in Settings → Billing. A bigger plan includes more, and paused destinations come back on within minutes.
- A one-off busy month? Write to support: we can add extra streaming data for this month.
- Use less: stream to fewer places at once, or choose 720p for 24/7 replays. Most viewers watch on phones, where 720p looks sharp.
